as posted by the channelTen years ago, long-time Washington Week moderator Paul Duke died at the age of 78. Duke worked for the AP, The Wall Street Journal and NBC News before joining Washington Week as moderator in 1974, a position he held for 20 years until his retirement in 1994. During his tenure, Duke expanded the list of reporters and panelists each week, and he was the first to invite current moderator Gwen Ifill to join the panel in the early 90s. Even in retirement, Duke continued to contribute to the program from his new home in London, and he returned to the moderator's chair briefly during 1999. On July 22, 2005, Gwen remembered remembered her predecessor. "He left us civility and tradition and a conviction that what happens here in Washington matters," Gwen said. "We will always miss him, but we will keep the flame he lit burning."
