Greatness in Insignificance

The almost incomprehensible greatness of our home, planet Earth, is ironically heightened by its insignificance when compared to the vastness and scale of our galaxy and universe.

With over 7 billion (virtually anonymous) people inhabiting Earth, there are several who stand out throughout the annals of human history; several who have furthered the compendium of knowledge, understanding, and potential for further growth and development.

Science has been fortunate enough to have within its ranks, many men and women who have dedicated their lives in earnest, to the exploration of truth and advancement. †They commune with data and research. Their temples are laboratories and classrooms. Their holy texts are not one, but many.

Also of late and in as many years we have seen rise to a new breed of champion for truth and reason. A veritable hybrid, grafting science and philosophy onto one single branch. A branch that will no doubt bare new fruit. The fruit of rationality and reason. A fruit of reverence for that which can be tested and measured.

Soon enough it will no longer be common to hide behind myth and legend. We, as a species will collectively strive to understand our wondrous potential and we will seek truth in wisdom. The quest for answers will not end, sitting around the bygone campfires of our ancestors, but instead, will live on in the curious minds of not only scientists and philosophers, but also the countless numbers of average nameless faceless residents of our great - yet insignificant little planet.
