As soon as protesters began entering and occupying Brazil’s Supreme Court building and other government institutions, speculation swirled about whether the protesters were being directed from the United States, with many keying on ousted President Jair Bolsonaro as a possible ringleader. Virtually all elected officials in the U.S. have denounced the riots, however, suggesting that the establishment members of both parties are supporting Lula over the decidedly Trump-like Bolsonaro.

Guest host Aaron Maté speaks with Latin America-based reporters Michael Fox and Camila Escalante about whether there may be a U.S. origin for the rebellious activities in Brazil.
