Ohio Pushing Marriage On Schoolkids! w/ Kyle Anzalone

In this segment, guest host Misty Winston critiques Ohio’s new “Success Sequence” curriculum, which teaches students that the ideal path is to finish high school, get a full-time job, get married, and then have children. She and guest Kyle Anzalone of antiwar.com argue that while some of those life choices may be beneficial for many people, the government should not be using public schools to prescribe a specific life path, especially when schools struggle with basic educational outcomes such as literacy.

The two also point out what they see as hypocrisy in Ohio politics, noting that some lawmakers opposed banning child marriage while simultaneously promoting a curriculum that assumes students will first graduate high school before marrying and having children. As Winston puts it, “Kids can't read, y'all,” arguing that schools should focus on core subjects rather than social or cultural instruction, while Anzalone warns that public education is increasingly becoming a battleground for competing political ideologies.
