as posted by the channel*Background:* In August and September of 2024, In a world first investigation, my team and I captured the first ever footage from inside a CO2 gas chamber pit system used to kill end of lay egg hens.
CO2 is an aversive gas, which burns the hen’s throat, eyes and lungs. Acidosis causes the hen’s blood and tissues to become acidic, as they suffocate in agony.
The hens clearly exhibit signs of severe pain, fear and distress with high-pitched vocalisations, gasping, and smashing into each other and the crates.
And most shockingly, Many hens in a desperate attempt to escape the aversive gas, jump from the trays and fall many metres hitting the bottom of the pit.
The HCF Abattoir, in Bradford, is Red tractor and RSPCA assured, and kills over half of the spent layers in the UK, many of whom are from free range or organic farming systems.
The flesh from the birds is sold as chicken meat for human consumption in many UK outlets including butchers, restaurants and large supermarkets like Tesco, and many more.
