On July 9th, 2009 HIV and AIDS activists from all over the North East in the U.S. came together in D.C. to stage a protest in the Capitol Rotunda. They chained themselves together, had t-shirts, posters, news outlets organized, and a massive banner to call attention to their three major demands. These demands are: to lift the federal ban on needle exchange, increase funding to the AIDS Global Fund, and provide housing (support HOPWA). 26 people were arrested for unlawful gathering, disorderly conduct, and disturbing the peace (essentially a noise violation).
