1:13Now PlayingTrump is now claiming Iran was “two weeks away” from getting nukes — even though he’s also been bragging that he “obliterated” Iran’s nuclear threat last June, including repeating it during the State of the Union. In my video, I break down how those two claims can’t both be true, and why the shifting story is the entire scandal. I also walk through the whiplash in the administration’s war justification: senior Trump officials told the public on Saturday that the US had to strike because Iran was planning a preemptive attack on US interests in the region. Then on Sunday, Pentagon briefers reportedly told congressional staff the opposite — that Iran wasn’t planning to strike US forces or bases unless Israel attacked first. Bottom line: they’re changing the rationale in real time, and that’s what you see when officials are selling a war they can’t honestly justify.
