Iran War Update: Gas prices soar

On tonight’s show, I’ll discuss Trump’s new push for a coalition to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, even as gas prices are now hitting $4.40 and oil is still sitting at crisis levels. And while Republicans are out there pretending prices are somehow “coming down,” the actual numbers say the opposite. Gas is up over the last day, week, month, year, and since Trump’s Iran war began. And GasBuddy’s Patrick De Haan says prices may not return to pre-war levels for more than a year after the Strait reopens. So no, this isn’t some minor blip. This is the bill coming due for Trump’s war.

I’ll also talk about Trump’s escalating attacks on the press, just days after a gunman entered a dinner hosting thousands of journalists. Trump is now calling CNN “the enemy” and saying the New York Times is “seditious” -- which is not just ugly rhetoric, it’s dangerous. Sedition means trying to violently overthrow the government. So when the president tells his supporters that journalists are the enemy and are basically traitors, that’s the kind of language that can get people killed. And the hypocrisy is almost too obvious: Trump and Melania spent days whining about a comedian telling a joke they thought was mean, while Trump is out here suggesting journalists are enemies of the state.

And then there’s the usual Trump corruption, chaos, and cognitive weirdness. His Justice Department is reportedly reviving probes into James Comey, Trump is ranting about “86 47,” his sons have taken a stake in a Kazakh mining company that won a $1.6 billion US government contract, and he’s publicly attacking Germany’s chancellor while claiming he took cognitive tests during his “three” terms as president. Three terms. Meanwhile, the Epstein story gets even darker, with a sealed suicide note now surfacing as a potential missing piece in the investigation. So tonight we’ve got war, gas prices, attacks on the press, political retribution, Epstein, Trump family profiteering, and the president apparently gluing his own challenge coins to doors in the White House. Totally normal.
