I’ve been asked why I wrote “Twenty Times I Almost Died.”
The answer is that it isn’t really a book about almost dying. It’s a book about character.
I believe stress reveals character. Who we truly are. It strips away titles, ego, and excuses, leaving only our decisions.
Over 25 years in the Army and years spent studying wars around the world, I found myself in situations where survival was never guaranteed. Each experience changed me and taught me something about leadership, resilience, humility, presence, duty, fatherhood, and what really matters.
This book shares twenty stories, but more importantly, twenty lessons. If even one of them helps someone become a stronger leader, a better parent, a better partner, a better teammate, or simply a stronger person when life gets hard, then every one of those experiences was worth sharing.
