YouTube Description
as posted by the channelSocial media apps are built on the gambling machine model of variable rewards. That means keeping you guessing is part of the appeal — you don't know if you'll have 5 likes or 500; 20 DMs or none at all. That is design deliberately geared toward addiction.
Further, the notifications that most people get throughout the day are totally counterproductive to human flourishing. It's impossible to be a happy person if you aren't regularly thinking about your life, uninterrupted by notifications.
This is why I require my students in my Flourishing class at NYU to opt out of ALL notifications and strongly encourage them to delete social media apps off their phones. The results they report are vastly increased life satisfaction.
