Over the past few months, I’ve been working on one of my toughest projects yet - a deep dive into the Cape Flats, one of South Africa’s most dangerous and misunderstood areas.

I spent time with gangsters, families caught in cycles of violence, and the City of Cape Town’s Anti-Gang Unit. Through a late-night raid in Valhalla Park, I was able to see firsthand the efforts being made on the ground alongside Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis and JP Smith.

I also covered a powerful protest following the assault of a young girl named Cwecwe, a moment that sparked national outrage and revealed serious cracks in our system.

This isn’t about stats or politics. It’s about the people living on the frontlines, fighting for a better future in one of the hardest places in the world.
