Vargas also reflects on the political persecution he observed when he arrived in Bolivia two weeks after the coup. And he updates Katie about the fate of Patricia Arce the former mayor of the small town of Vinto, who a violent mob had attacked, doused in red paint, forced to walk barefoot on glass, and had her hair forcibly cut off in the days during the coup and was politically persecuted and threatened ever since. But on October 18, Arce was elected to the senate.
