13:05Now PlayingThe Katie Halper Show (we think) coined the term woke-washing to describe the way the corporate media and political elites weaponize identity to insulate people from legitimate criticism and distract from their record and policy positions. See, for example, how Neera Tanden's "lived experience" of living in section eight housing is more important than her advocating cutting the entitlements from which she benefited. Or see how NYT reporter Jonathan Martin chided the Sunrise Movement for daring to criticize a terrible Biden pick because said Biden pick was "the most influential Black staffer." MSNBC is one of the biggest culprits of wokewashing and in this example. we see them engaging in pink-washing, a term Katie did not coin. Not only do Brian Williams and Tim Miller focus on Pete's identity over his policy, but in an incredibly ridiculous moment, former Jeb Bush aide and current Never Trumper Tim Miller gushes over how young LGBTQ people can look up to Pete for being the first openly gay cabinet member... to be confirmed by The Senate. See, Trump already named an openly gay cabinet member, Richard Grenell. But he didn't need to be confirmed by the Senate.
Nando Vila, Briahna Joy Gray and Ben Burgis help Katie break down this abominable media fail. Enjoy.
