Screenwriter and WGA board of directors member John Rogers pushes back against the claim made by some that TV writers are not “real” workers. "I would've thought relative privation would be something we'd given up by now. But I completely understand. When I meet writers, I tend to hire writers who have either lifted sh*t or taken sh*t. But that's a really good way to other a group of workers who are trying to establish a precedent, a labor precedent, which is we picked a fight and we won. And every time a union picks a fight and wins that makes somebody else go, maybe we should unionize. The best time to start a union was a hundred years ago. The second best time is today. And every time a union wins, no matter what that union it is, it helps everybody."

John Rogers is a screenwriter and the creator of the television series Jackie Chan Adventures (2000–2005), Leverage (2008–2012; 2021-present as Leverage: Redemption on Freevee), The Librarians (2014–2018), and The Player (2015). Rogers co-wrote the films American Outlaws (2001), The Core (2003), Catwoman (2004), and Marry Me (2022), and co-wrote the story for the film Transformers (2007).
