Jamie Peck and Sam Beard have a major announcement about Luigi Mangione and the December 4th Defense Committee. But first suspended Columbia University graduate students and their lawyer talk about their lawsuit against the University for violating its own policies during the disciplinary process, targeting the students for their views, and breaking New York’s landlord tenant laws when it evicted the students from university housing.
Jamie Peck is co-host of the Party Girls Podcast. Before that she co-hosted The Antifada podcast and worked for four years as a producer/contributor on The Majority Report With Sam Seder. She has made appearances on shows like HasanAbi, Central Committee, and Closer Look with Rose Scott. Jamie’s work has been featured in such publications as The Guardian, The LA Review of Books, and Rolling Stone, for which she has covered grassroots activism, government policy, feminist perspectives, and electoral politics.
Sam Beard is co-host of the Party Girls podcast, and a Chicago-based organizer, writer and media specialist who has been active in revolutionary organizing and activist campaigns since 2012. Sam hosted an FM radio show, wrote as a journalist for a newspaper and served as a spokesperson for a variety of social movements and campaigns over the past decade. Most recently Sam was involved in media strategy and outreach for a coordinated nationwide support initiative of Gaza Solidarity Encampment movement. Prior to that, Sam served as a spokesperson for the Block Cop City mass action and was a long time participant in the movement to Stop Cop City from the movement's inception in early 2021 up until the present day.
Catherine Elias Curran-Groome is a former Masters student specializing in Palestine studies at Columbia University. Prior to her expulsion for organizing against the Columbia-funded Israeli genocide in Gaza, she lived in Palestine with her partner while working for a local mutual aid network. Outside of organizing she bartends, dabbles in portrait photography, and lights men up on the basketball court.
Brandon Murphy is a suspended Masters in Social Work student at Columbia University who is proud to be a part of the movement fighting for Palestinian liberation here on Turtle Island. He is passionate about connecting the struggles of the Palestinian people to those of all oppressed peoples in New York, especially Latinos and Mexican immigrants, given they are close to home for him as a Mexican. In his free time he likes to break bread with his friends and has been told he’s a pretty good cook.
James Carlson is an attorney in private practice focusing on immigration and civil rights litigation.
