YouTube Description
as posted by the channelIn our efforts for a better Winnipeg we continue to move motions that will ensure all members of Council are heard. After all, you elected them to speak on your behalf and not follow the direction of one.
The current budget vote is used to disguise it's original intent. Under the "Big Mayor" model (EPC + 2) the Mayor presents the entire $1 Billion in two parts, operations and capital. This allows them to include many increases and cuts to service with a couple of goodies people will appreciate.
It works like this for example, if you want Libraries to remain open you are forced to vote for a 7% rate increase on water. This system provides the narrative for political grandstanding. We hear statements like, "He didn't even vote to keep Libraries open". That manipulation serves only one agenda and is not helping our City.
Our motion will make the budget vote more transparent and give all members of Council to voice your opinions on select items.
