I rise today to offer my appreciation to the women and men of the RCMP at D Division, our own WPS members and law enforcement across our country. The frustrations of the recent unfortunate events are raising tensions, people are focusing their anger, disappointment and frustration on our law enforcement and that’s not fair to the women and men who serve all Canadians.
The fact is, Peace Officers across this nation cannot effectively serve ALL citizens, upholding their oaths to protect and serve, when they are repeatedly forced to intervene in long standing political events that divide us.
Fair, reasonable and lasting solutions require bold leadership. Leadership that is willing to be fully engaged, 24/7 to do everything possible to resolve the tensions the have been created and the vision to provide hope for everyone across our country.
It's disappointing leaders haven’t displayed any evidence of hope, boldness and compassion, with the unfaltering resolve necessary to find lasting solutions.
Today, I thank police officers who are following orders and doing their best to keep everyone safe, despite the reason, party affiliation, left, right, indigenous, newcomer, because we are all Canadians - 24 hours a day 7 days a week their job doesn’t change; keeping everyone in our community safe by following lawful orders.
The recent events are clearly hurting all of us. They're causing more division among us than collaboration. It doesn’t matter who’s right or wrong at this point. We are all suffering.
We can only hope our leaders will take action before the division has grown beyond repair.
As our country struggles, I want to thank the members of law enforcement who is the target of frustration and anger from all sides.
I would ask everyone to remember that the women and men within our policing ranks are not political leaders. They, like each of us, have families, children, feelings, get hurt, are abused verbally and physically but they show up to face it all again the next day because they honour their duty to serve and protect all Canadians.
