1:00:13Now PlayingOver the last the several weeks, activity on Venezuela has significantly picked up pace. The U.S. Department of Justice indicted Nicolas Maduro and 14 members of his regime on charges of narco-terrorism, presented a proposal for a transition government, and deployed the largest amount of counter-narcotics assets to the East-Pacific and Caribbean in recent history. The recent arrival of COVID-19 to Venezuela is poised to overwhelm Venezuela’s health system, already devastated by years of Maduro’s corruption. Since the outbreak began, Maduro has imprisoned whistleblowers, medical professionals, and opposition lawmakers. The regime has also continued sending free oil and medical supplies to Cuba, politicizing healthcare over protecting vulnerable Venezuelans. Please join The Heritage Foundation for a conversation with Deputy Assistant Secretary Carrie Filipetti to unpack these recent developments and policy initiatives.
