Their rise culminated in the election of Rudolf I, who clashed with Ottokar of Bohemia at the Battle of Marchfeld (1278), securing Austria for his family. However, their ambitions led to fierce conflicts, including the Battle of Morgarten (1315) against the Swiss Confederacy and the Battle of Mühldorf (1322) against Bavaria. Despite setbacks, the Habsburgs remained a key force in the Holy Roman Empire. The Golden Bull of 1356 cemented their role in Imperial politics, setting the stage for their later dominance.
