Kings and Generals animated historical documentary series on the early modern history and history of the United States of America, continues with a new series on the Civil War. Previously, we have covered the American Revolution the War of American Independence (). The setup episode of our Civil War series will discuss why the South seceded and the real reason behind the American Civil War (), while the first episode will describe how and why the American Civil War happened (). The first shots were fired with the Bleeding Kansas in 18541861 and John Brown's raid on Harpers Ferry in 1859, but the war started with the Confederate secession and the attack on Fort Sumter in April of 1861 and the first battle of Bull Run in July of 1861 (). In the aftermath, Lincoln and his commander, McClellan, launched the Peninsula Campaign, hoping to take the Confederate capital of Richmond during the Seven Days Battles and win the war quickly. (). These events allowed Lee to go on an offensive, leading to the second battle of Manassas (Bull Run), Cedar Mountai,n and Antietam (). The war continued with the battles of Chancellorsville and Fredericksburg in 1862 (), and the hostilities peaked at Gettysburg in 1863 (). In episode 7, we described the naval theater of the war, including the birth of the ironclads and the Battle of Hampton Roads (), while episode 8 turned towards the western states, as we discuss the events in Kentucky and Missouri, Ulysses Grant enters the war and the battle of Fort Donalson takes place (). The Confederates launched a desperate counterattack at Shiloh, Corinth and Stone’s River () and Grant's campaigns continued at Vicksburg (), following the battles at Chickamauga and Chattanooga (), and Sherman’s campaign from Meridian to Atlantamaneuvers, battles, leadership shifts, and decisive Union victory.
