YouTube Description
as posted by the channelIn 1867, the American ship Rover wrecked off the coast of Taiwan, washing its crew ashore into the territory of the Paiwan tribe. 🌊 Mistaking the Americans for returning Dutch oppressors from centuries past, the Paiwan ambushed them. When US Marines launched a punitive expedition, Formosan warriors used the high jungles to force a retreat! This chain of events eventually triggered an 1874 invasion by the Empire of Japan. #TaiwanHistory #RoverIncident #HistoryShorts #MilitaryHistory #USMarines #QingDynasty #PaiwanTribe #19thCentury
