While announcing an unprovoked military assault on Ukraine, Putin said he was aiming for the "demilitarization and de-Nazification of Ukraine." What does it mean?

First of all, it’s a historical term: according to the dictionary, it’s a "process of bringing the leaders of the National Socialist regime in Germany to justice and of purging all elements of Nazism from public life, carried out, especially between 1945 and 1948."

Putin uses this term in a new context and new meaning: he says that the government in Ukraine is a nazi government (which is not true) and that he wants to decapitate the country and take out the nazis.

However, that term from the propaganda point of view turned out to be very unclear to the audience. The Kremlin's secret polls show that people have no idea what it is and can’t even pronounce it correctly. So, on state TV they decided to cut that term. Before they could dedicate the whole segment to the explanation of that term, but now you can hardly hear it on TV.

Abstract words show us the unclear goals and the senselessness of the operation itself.
