Jacob Blake, who was shot seven times by Kenosha police officers, gave some rather philosophical advice recently from his hospital bed. But it didn’t include one crucial message: If he would have complied with police officers, odds are he would have been unharmed by those officers. A few years ago, a longtime activist from Phoenix was invited to take a police training class, and when he did, his assumptions about the split-second choices made by police officers were shaken to the core. After the class, he said, “People need to comply with the orders of law enforcement officers, for their own sake.”
