Videos capture violent incidents between protestors and police. The National Guard was activated in multiple states. Demonstrations lead to protests, and curfews were instituted in many states. Curfews have resulted in numerous arrests.
Graphic Video shows a Buffalo officer pushing a 75-year-old protester. Robert McCabe & Aaron Torgalski have been charged with 2nd degree assault. McCabe & Torgalski both pleaded not guilty in court. Fellow officers showed support during their court hearing. Fifty-seven officers resigned from the department in solidarity. The victim remains in the hospital in critical condition. The Buffalo Police Department initially claimed the victim "tripped and fell."
The Death of George Floyd has ignited renewed requests for reform. Protestors are now calling for defunding of police. There have been calls to reinvest in community-led public safety efforts. Minneapolis city council supports defunding the police. MN mayor was booed at a protest for opposition to disbandment.
