Harwick suffered horrific injuries including blunt force trauma to her head and torso, as well as evidence of strangulation. She tragically died at the hospital shortly after the fall.

Authorities swiftly zeroed in on Harwick's ex-boyfriend, Gareth Pursehouse, as the prime suspect. Pursehouse had a history of stalking and harassment toward Harwick, who had previously filed restraining orders against him. Many of the doctor's friends described Pursehouse as an obsessive "stalker." He now faces murder charges for Harwick's disturbing death.
