In October 2022, Missouri deputies received calls about a man driving under the influence, prompting them to take immediate action. Bodycam footage captures the moment when the officers approached the driver, who was later identified as Sheriff Clay Chism. Upon making contact with Chism, the deputies noticed a strong odor of alcohol and vomit emanating from his person and the immediate vicinity of his vehicle. The bodycam video shows that Chism's clothes were visibly soiled with vomit, and there was evidence of it right outside his car.

As the officers continued their investigation, they observed a can of Four Loko, an alcoholic beverage, sitting in Chism's cup holder. Suspecting that he was intoxicated, the deputies asked the former Callaway County Sheriff to perform field sobriety tests to assess his level of impairment. However, Chism refused to comply with their request. Left with no choice, the officers resorted to physically removing him from the vehicle and placing him under arrest for driving while intoxicated (DWI). In December, Chism entered a guilty plea to the misdemeanor DWI charge, facing the consequences of his actions.
