During these opening statements, shocking evidence such as 911 calls and images were released and shown to the jury. On January 30th, 2023, 75-year-old Arizona rancher George Alan Kelly allegedly shot and killed Gabriel Cuen Buitimea, whom he accused of trespassing on his ranch in Keno Springs after crossing the Mexican border. Kelly and his wife were concerned about cartels trafficking drugs and people before the deadly incident happened. Reports also say Butimea had a history of illegally crossing the border. Kelly is charged with second-degree murder and aggravated assault.
