Ashley Benefield is expected to be in court Thursday for a bond hearing. The Florida ballerina was convicted of shooting and killing her husband, Doug Benefield, and sentenced to 20 years in prison for manslaughter. Her defense team filed a new motion asking that she be released from the Manatee County Jail pending her appeal. Ashley Benefield testified she shot Doug Benefield in self-defense after years of abuse. She was originally charged with second-degree murder but a jury found her guilty of the lesser charge of manslaughter.
