15:58Now PlayingThe lead detective who investigated John O’Keefe's murder was “relieved of duty” from the Massachusetts State Police after a judge declared a mistrial in Karen Read’s case. Trooper Michael Proctor testified in the murder trial and admitted to sending vulgar and dirty text messages about Read, her appearance, and her health. In a statement Monday evening, the Massachusetts State Police said "Our focus remains on delivering the highest level of police services with professionalism and integrity. The Department has relieved Trooper Proctor of duty effective immediately.”

Karen Read faced several charges including second-degree murder, manslaughter while operating under the influence of alcohol, and leaving the scene of personal injury and death. She was arrested in February of 2022, a few days after John O’Keefe died.
