On Friday morning, a hearing took place to schedule the trial of Jose Antonio Ibarra, who is accused of murdering UGA student Laken Riley. Riley was out on a run when her friends called the police after she failed to return home. During the hearing, the court discussed future motion hearings regarding evidence and scheduled the upcoming trial.

Laken Riley, a 22-year-old woman, went out for a run last month but did not return home as expected. Concerned about her whereabouts, one of Riley's friends contacted the University of Georgia Police. Within 30 minutes of the report, officers located Riley in a wooded area off a trail, where she was found with visible injuries. The following day, UGA police announced that Jose Antonio Ibarra had been charged in connection with Riley's murder and kidnapping.
