Her attorney, Alan Jackson, stated that O’Keefe was not hit by a car and accused investigators of corruption, claiming they ignored crucial evidence. Jackson argued that the state cannot prove Read’s SUV was involved in her boyfriend’s death and criticized lead investigator Michael Proctor for sending vulgar messages about Read, which resulted in his termination. Jackson reiterated several times that Read is an innocent woman.
