During his brief trial, interview videos of Ali Younes were played in court for the judge. Younes first spoke to law enforcement about the crime he allegedly committed at the University of Iowa. He is accused of strangling a woman in April 2022. The defendant was later placed on house arrest until he cut off his ankle monitor and fled the country to Jordan. He later returned to the U.S. in 2024, where he spoke to authorities once again in a jailhouse video.
