Fraud Complicates AI Copyright (In re: Théâtre D’opéra Spatial)

The U.S. Copyright Office recently rejected the registration of "Théâtre D’opéra Spatial”, an award-winning image partly created by Jason M. Allen and partly created by Midjourney, an AI that can generate interesting (but often inadequate) images from text prompts.

Mr. Allen apparently refused to disclose the amount of the work created by Midjourney, hoping to receive copyright registration over the complete work.
