When someone swerves into your lane and drives you off the road, even if there is no property damage or injuries, there are 4 things you need to do. First, take a picture of their license plate. Whether or not they flee the scene, it is nice to have. If they do flee the scene, then you will be really happy you have it. If they don’t flee the scene, then you have it as a backup. Second, have law enforcement document the incident. They can document that you did not cause the accident and they can also note if any damage occurred as a result of their actions. Third, notify your insurance company immediately. Let them know that an accident occurred, that it wasn’t your fault, and even if the other car didn’t hit you, they caused you to swerve off the road that may have caused some sort of damages. Fourth, look for witnesses and collect their contact information. The witnesses can attest that you are not at fault. Try and get them to make a statement to law enforcement so that it can be documented immediately.
If you were forced off the road and caused any property damage or any injury that occurred to yourself or anyone else, do these three things immediately. First, get medical attention immediately to treat whatever injuries occurred. Second, get repairs for vehicle & any other property damage that occurred. Third, contact a lawyer.
