8:26Now PlayingLess than a year out from the election, net migration has hit record levels. Nick Ferrari hears from a range of callers after the Conservatives unveiled a new five-point plan which the Tories hope will be seen as a tough-on-migration vote-winner.
The government's five-point plan to bring down migration:
- End abuse of health and care visa - need care firms to be regulated by Care Quality Commission. Only 25% in work - many drawing on public services.
- Increase annual health immigrant surcharge by 66% from £624 to £1,035
- Stop immigration undercutting British salary - new immigration salary list with fewer occupations
- People only bring dependents that they can support financially. Minimum income of £18,600 now increased to £37,700.
- Review grad route to prevent abuse, protect the integrity of UK higher education, and work in the best interests of the UK.
