5:30Now PlayingNatasha Clark takes you through an eventful second week of the election campaign.
It's been a tumultuous week in the election campaign! We started off with the big Reform UK U-turn, as Nigel Farage was unveiled as party leader and candidate in Clacton-on-sea. But his triumphant return was dampened, quite literally, by a milkshake straight to the face.
The middle of the week was dominated by the aftermath of the first televised debate, in which Rishi Sunak accused Keir Starmer of a plot to raise taxes by £2,000. His insistence that this figure was reached 'independently' drew the most ire, and his opponent even went so far as to accuse him of lying.
But if Rishi Sunak's narrow 51/49 victory in the debate according to a YouGov poll was the high-point of the week, his low-point came in Normandy. Choosing to leave a D-Day commemoration early so he could record a TV interview led to wipespread criticism and a swift apology. But how costly could that decision prove to be?
