YouTube Description
as posted by the channelRosie Duffield MP has quit Labour - and launched an attack upon Sir Keir Starmer's leadership.
Ms Duffield, 53, is the fastest MP to leave a party after a general election in modern history.
In her resignation letter, the now-Independent MP for Canterbury, wrote to the Prime Minister: "I am so ashamed of what you and your inner circle have done to tarnish and humiliate our once proud party.”
The row over declarations by MPs and senior ministers overshadowed the Labour conference last week, with criticism aimed at both the PM and his ministers for accepting luxury gifts from wealthy donors while announcing cuts to the winter fuel allowance.
Matthew Wright is joined by The Times’ Aubery Alegretti, and they discuss the possibility of whether rules should be brought in to prevent politicians from resigning the party whip yet remaining an MP without a by-election.
Former Labour advisor Matthew Torbitt criticizes her for being more absent than other MPs in parliament, and calls out her double standard as she has accepted freebies in the past as well.
Matthew also hears from caller Sandy, who supports her resignation saying the ‘rules need changing’ over how MPs are allowed to accept gifts.
