YouTube Description
as posted by the channelFive years ago today, on 31 January 2020, the UK left the European Union.
James O'Brien reacts to new statistics on the referendum, as well as the suggestion that the downsides of Brexit have been partially ‘offset’ by increased migration.
James says this is close to 'a complete condemnation of every single argument for leaving the EU'.
‘We’re allowed to just laugh now aren’t we?’, asks James.
The country severed its political ties it had held for nearly five decades, but stayed inside the EU single market and customs union for a further 11 months to keep trade flowing.
Northern Ireland had a separate arrangement.
Brexit was massively controversial, both politically and socially, and it dominated political debate with arguments about its impacts raging for years.
