As Donald Trump imposes 25% tariffs on Canada, Lewis Goodall speaks with Ralph Goodale, Canada’s High Commissioner to the UK.

Trump has announced that a 25% levy on Canadian and Mexican imports, along with an additional 10% tax on Chinese goods, will take effect on Tuesday. However, Canadian energy exports will face a lower 10% tariff.

The US president has justified the move as a response to concerns over illegal immigration and drug trafficking—two key issues that defined his election campaign.

Goodale describes this as a “very dangerous time for the world,” warning that the decision has “destabilised the world economy.”

When asked whether Trump poses a threat to global stability, he replies: “Just look at the hard evidence.”
