Donald Trump and Emmanuel Macron shared a series of awkward attempted handshakes after tense talks over which countries will ensure Ukraine's future.
Mr Trump claimed it would be Europe that 'make[s] sure nothing happens" in Ukraine when it comes to security, after he said that Vladimir Putin would be happy to see peacekeeping forces on the ground in the event of a deal being struck to end the war.
He was speaking after a White House meeting with Mr Macron, the French president, which ended with the two fumbling at each other's hands while smiling awkwardly.
It comes after the US twice sided with Russia in UN votes over the war in Ukraine on Monday night to mark the third anniversary of the invasion.
The two countries first voted against a Europe-backed resolution to the war in Ukraine, before attempting to block a resolution that called for an end to the conflict and branded Russia the aggressor.
