Donald Trump said his UK state visit could happen in September as it is "an honour to be a friend of King Charles and the family, William."

However several MPs and peers have called for the President to be blocked from addressing parliament when he visits the UK.

Some have argued that it would be 'inappropriate' for him to speak in the Palace of Westminster as Barack Obama, Martin Luther King, and the late Pope Francis did.

Efforts to prevent Trump addressing parliamentarians are being headed by Lord Foulkes.

The former Minister of State for Scotland told LBC: "It would not be appropriate on this occasion because of his attitude towards the United Kingdom, he doesn't respect the court in the United States, and he doesn't respect democracy or the rule of law."
