YouTube Description
as posted by the channelShelagh Fogarty is joined by travel expert Simon Calder to explore how major power outages have caused widespread disruption across Europe.
Spain, Portugal, and other European countries have been hit by a huge blackout, bringing airports, metro systems, and other infrastructure to a standstill.
Madrid’s Barajas Airport remains without power, while metro services in Valencia have been fully suspended. Metrovalencia, which operates the city’s metro and tram services, described the disruption as the result of a "general power outage," warning that the extent and duration of the blackout are still unknown.
Spain’s national rail operator, Renfe, confirmed that no trains have been able to leave stations since the outage began. Parts of Madrid’s underground system have been evacuated, and traffic lights across the city have failed, according to local media reports. Phone lines are also down in parts of the country.
There are reports of similar outages in France and Germany, as the blackout continues to cause travel chaos across the continent.
