James O’Brien reacts to ‘race-based grievances’ around the UK-India trade deal | LBC

The UK has secured a trade deal with India, following three years of negotiation.

The government said it was the “biggest and most economically significant” deal the UK has signed since Brexit.

James O’Brien said “what was really significant” was seeing the “fascinating schism in the Brexit-supporting lobby” with “two very interesting responses to the UK-India trade deal.”

'The people that were the biggest champions of Brexit were the first to demand we stop talking about it, which tells you all we need to know.'

‘It’s uglier than that… if we can bring a race-based grievance into the conversation it becomes a bigger electoral tool.’

‘We are going to be talking about immigration constantly because Brexit let a genie out the bottle.’

‘Labour are betting the house on making us feel a bit better off.’
