George Osborne turns on the Tories | LBC

Andrew Marr is joined by former Chancellor George Osborne to examine the political fallout from the government’s decision to cut the winter fuel allowance and the wider implications of Treasury U-turns.

Osborne criticises the policy, arguing it offers little financial benefit and lacks a clear rationale. He urges Chancellor Rachel Reeves to either reform or scrap the measure to prevent long-term political damage.

He also warns that Labour’s rocky start, characterised by unpopular decisions and poor communication, risks eroding public trust.

Unexpectedly, Osborne appears turns his fire on his own party, suggesting the Conservatives are becoming irrelevant and warning that culture war tactics won’t win back voters.

He takes aim at Kemi Badenoch’s recent trade remarks, calling them counterproductive and suggesting they risk alienating key international partners.

“She made a name for herself with culture war issues,” he says.

“If we spoke a bit less about transgender toilets and more about taxes, we might be onto something.”
