10:02Now PlayingSarah Pochin, the new MP for Runcorn and Helsby, used her first question at Prime Minister’s Question Time to ask the Prime Minister if he would ‘follow the lead of France, Denmark, Belgium and others and ban the burqa?’.
The Prime Minister responded that he would ‘not follow her [Pochin] down that line’.
Nick Ferrari spoke to Lila Tamea, a Yemeni Muslim activist and PhD researcher, and journalist Khadija Khan, to debate Pochin’s question.
Tamea defended the wearing of the Burqa as Khan warned of its threat to ‘national security’. Tamea responded by insinuating Khan ‘one of these ex-Muslims’ who ‘have trauma’ from a misrepresentation of Islam.
It is unclear if banning the Burqa is official Reform policy. Nigel Farage retweeted a video of Sarah Pochin asking the question to the Prime Minister on his X account, as did fellow Reform MP, Lee Anderon.
To date, 18 countries have banned the Burqa, with restrictions in place in Muslim majority countries Algeria, Egypt, Kyrgyzstan, Morocco, Syria, Tajikistan, Tunisia, Uzbekistan.
