7:29Now PlayingShelagh Fogarty is joined by co-host of The News Agents podcast, Jon Sopel, to discuss the possible outcome of the Russia-US Alaska Summit.
Leaders Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin are scheduled to meet on Friday in the US state to discuss the possibility of ending the war in Ukraine.
Jon Sopel emphasises the 'uncertainty' surrounding the meeting, saying that 'we have no indication of how this is going to go'.
Speaking on the relationship between the two leaders, Sopel thinks Trump gives Putin 'too much credence', which he suspects is due to Russia's nuclear weapon capacity.
Talks will likely focus on 'land-swapping' as part of a peace deal, as Trump has preciously suggested a swap of Ukrainian territories would be 'to the betterment' of both sides.
In turn, Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with European leaders, led by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, to discuss Europe's role in peace talks.
Ahead of the Friday meeting, Trump has promised to call Zelenskyy immediately after to fill the Ukrainian president in on what was discussed.
