9:15Now PlayingThe violation of Polish airspace by 19 Russian drones on Tuesday night has been described as Vladimir Putin's attempt to 'push the envelope' by the University of Exeter's Professor of War Studies, Anthony King.
Speaking to James O'Brien on LBC, King said he thinks it is 'unlikely' the presence of Russian drones in Poland was intentional, as 'Putin stands nothing to gain from this'. No vulnerability was shown by NATO, as it was one of 'unity', said King.
However, Poland's Prime Minister Donald Tusk has claimed the country is 'closer to war than at anytime since World War II'.
More than eight million Poles were told to stay in the their homes as the drones flew into Polish soil. Debris from one shot-down device crashing into a house.
Mr Tusk held an emergency meeting on Wednesday morning after saying Poland’s airspace was “violated by a huge number of Russian drones”. There have been no reports of any injuries.
There were 19 objects which intruded into Polish airspace overnight with many drones entering from Belarus, he later said parliament. Three drones are confirmed to have been shot down.
