11:04Now PlayingLBC’s Washington correspondent Simon Marks updates James O’Brien on events taking place in the U.S. recently.
Marks starts by discussing Zohran Mamdani’s bid to be Mayor of New York, a race that is swaying more and more in his favour.
New Yorkers are set to hit the polls on November 4th, either voting for Mamdani, Andrew Cuomo or Curtis Sliwa.
Marks suggests that Mamdani’s critics are ‘fearful’ of the ‘government plans he intends to oversee’, as his win looks more and more likely.
Addressing the government shutdown in the U.S., Marks explains that Trump 'relishes' this delay as it 'gives him the opportunity to show how the powers of the president are unlimited'.
The shutdown has stretched for four weeks now, as Republicans and Democrats initially could not agree to pass a bill that funds government services, forcing the government into a standstill.
Touching on the breaking of the peace deal in Gaza, Simon Marks and James O'Brien suggest that the war could 'revive' again, as it seems Trump 'prematurely' claimed victory in the region.
This comes as Israel has launched strikes on Gaza after Benjamin Netanyahu ordered the military to carry out 'powerful' attacks.
