as posted by the channelHistorian and author Rutger Bregman tells James O'Brien that the BBC are 'obeying in advance' after the broadcaster removed a comment about Donald Trump from his Radio 4 lecture.
Rutger Bregman, who is presenting this year's Reith Lectures, said he included a line referring to Trump as 'the most openly corrupt president ever' in a section discussing US politics, but that it was removed prior to its broadcast.
What was the reason for the edit and would this have happened under 'normal' circumstances?
A BBC spokesperson said “All of our programmes are required to comply with the BBC’s editorial guidelines, and we made the decision to remove one sentence from the lecture on legal advice.”
