YouTube Description
as posted by the channelJames O’Brien ponders what the future looks like for NATO, as Donald Trump continues to threaten a U.S. take-over of Greenland.
Following military intervention in Venezuela over the weekend, the U.S. President said he wants to take the Danish territory 'right now', stating that it would be solely for 'national security' purposes.
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen says that Trump has 'no right' to assume control of Greenland, with other world leaders criticising the potential move.
James O'Brien questions whether any intervention in Greenland by the U.S. would signal the end of NATO, the post-war military alliance founded in 1949.
Article 5 of the treaty states that 'an armed attack against one or more' members in Europe or North America 'shall be considered an attack against them all'.
However, O'Brien goes on to say he 'doesn't know what European resistance' to Trump would 'look like'.
Going a step further, he thinks that if a 'plausible' event of an invasion of Greenland does occur, there's 'nothing [Europe] can do'.
